The Bank of Guam is offering 25 scholarships to the island’s elementary, middle, and high school teaching professionals to attend the 22nd Pacific History Association Conference to be hosted in Guam in May 2016. The Pacific History Association (PHA) is made up of the world’s premier scholars of history, anthropology, social sciences, literature, music, language, education, indigenous studies, cultural studies, and other fields significant to Oceania’s past. The 2016 conference, “Mona: Our Pasts Before Us,” will feature the latest research in Pacific History by scholars and others from the Pacific Islands, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Americas. This will provide Guam’s teachers with a valuable professional development opportunity and access to research and resources that they can apply to their teaching.

The 2016 Bank of Guam Pacific History Association Conference Scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis. Recipients will be selected based on the appropriateness of the educational opportunity related to the applicant’s area of teaching. We welcome scholarship applications from those teaching in the areas of history, culture, the arts, literature, tourism, social studies, and other areas specifically related to Guam and greater Micronesia and the Pacific Islands. The scholarships, valued at more than $200, will be awarded to cover conference registration fees and one (1) professional development credit.
